Little Hearts Early Learning Program

Little Hearts Early Learning Program

Little Hearts is an early learning program for toddler and nursery girls located on the Mater Campus of the Academy of the Sacred Heart.   Using the best practices from a variety of educational approaches, Little Hearts provides a hands-on, child-centered early education program in a caring, nurturing environment.

The faculty is comprised of teachers and administrators who love children. They are educated in child development and understand and embrace the value of early education. They are responsive, receptive, aware of the needs of early learners, and eager to cooperate with parents to promote each child's optimal growth and development.

The school recognizes and understands that the early years are years of learning and discovery, and teachers work with each child to help her grow in all areas of her development.  The primary aim is to enable each child to develop a positive self-concept and an optimistic attitude towards learning.  As a Sacred Heart institution, the New Orleans school shares a philosophy and spirit with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools and Sacred Heart schools throughout the world.

LITTLE HEARTS CURRICULUM

TODDLERS
The 3 or 5-day, half-day program is for girls who are 2-years-old by August 31.

The toddler program can accommodate three classes of ten children with a teacher and an assistant in each.  The classrooms are spacious and well-equipped, with an atmosphere that is engaging and child-friendly.  Arrival time begins at 7:30 a.m.  The educational program focuses on working with each student to enhance socialization skills, language development, and motor ability.  Beginning independence and self-confidence are fostered in a safe environment.  Individual and small group instruction provides teachers with the opportunity to develop a personal relationship with each child.  In addition to circle time, story time, outside play, classroom projects, and imaginative play, the girls participate in religion, art, library, physical education, and music activities.

NURSERY
The 5-day, half-day program is for girls who are 3-years-old by August 31.  The nursery program can accommodate three classes of sixteen children with a teacher and assistant in each.  Children must be completely toilet-trained.  The nursery program provides a dynamic and stimulating environment.  Activities include use of manipulative materials and games to enhance readiness skills and coordination, group experiences to promote sociability and concern for peers and the environment, and informal introduction to letters and numbers.  Learning centers provide the setting for individual and small group instruction.  The educational program includes enriching classroom activities with special instruction in religion, art, library, music, and physical education.  Special events, field trips, and interaction with primary grade 'buddies' enhance the developmental program.  Arrival time begins at 7:30 a.m. Little Hearts offers an Extended Day option (Noon-3:00p.m.) for students who need care following the regular program.  Extended Day activities include lunch, rest time, indoor activities, and outside play.
