You may have noticed the work going on in the Little Hearts and Preschool yards. We are delighted to report that our long-awaited playgrounds are under construction! The girls and their teachers will be having recess in the Primary yard until these projects are completed. We've been advised that site preparation and assembly should take about three weeks (weather permitting). Let's pray for sunshine!
Thank you to all who supported the Paint the City Pink project. What a rousing success! Yesterday's pink day was quite an event. The girls looked adorable in their Volleyball for the Cure t-shirts (and other pink attire), and had a wonderful time supporting the 4th Primary Bake Sale. All monies raised will go to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure fund.
Welcome:
There are several new faces in Little Hearts and Preschool this week. Please welcome the Webster girls-Madeline, Anna Louise, and Katherine Webster-who are spending time in New Orleans as a result of their family's evacuation from Houston because of Hurricane Ike. Madeline has joined Ms. Gravener's Prek class, and Anna Louise and Katherine are in Ms. Erin's Nursery class. The girls' school, Annunciation Orthodox, is one of many ISAS schools in Houston that welcomed New Orleans students after Katrina. Mom, Renee Prieur Webster, is an ASH alum.
And the Winners Are.
Congratulations to Briel Ann Fleming (T) and Isabella Dupre (Prek) who went home yesterday with the pink bears donated by Build-a-Bear for Paint the City Pink Day. Mrs. Friedrichs pulled the names from an envelope and these girls were the lucky winners.
NOSHC Screenings:
Staff members from the New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center will be on campus on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of next week (September 23-24-25) to perform vision, hearing, speech, and language screenings. In several weeks, the Center will send a report to those who registered with the results of the screening. If you did not sign up your daughter, and would still like to, please get a registration form from Mrs. Leftwich or Mrs. Korbel at the front desk.
Class Pictures/School Pictures:
Class pictures will be taken next Friday, September 26. If you would like to order one, please return the picture envelope that was sent home last week. If your daughter was absent for her individual school picture, re-takes will also be on September 26. If there was an obvious flaw (e.g., eyes closed), and you would like your daughter to have a re-take, please hold on to the complete picture envelope and return it on the re-take day.
Parent Questionnaire:
Enclosed with this Childpost is a questionnaire that we ask you to complete and return to your child's homeroom teacher no later than Friday, September 26. Your candid responses will better help the teachers get to know and work with you and your daughter.
Faculty Appreciation:
Enclosed with this Childpost is a letter from Nicole Ciaccio and Lisa Yarborough who co-chair the Faculty Appreciation Committee for the Mothers' Club. The teachers really look forward to and enjoy this day each month. If you would like to participate in the program, please return the completed form to school by Friday, September 26.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 2. This is a time for you to meet with your daughter's teacher to discuss her adjustment to a new grade. There is no school for students on this day, nor or they permitted at the conference; however, care is available for her during the time of the conference only. Enclosed with this Childpost is a letter noting the time of your daughter's conference. Please contact her teacher if you have a scheduling concern. Please, no infants or siblings.
A "Happy Gram" Helps Build Positive Behavior:
It is so important to reinforce positive behavior, and a Happy Gram is a way for us to help you with that. If your daughter does something at home which is "above and beyond" what is expected (e.g., cleaning her room without being asked), or if she is working on a behavior or skill and you "catch her" being successful (e.g., sleeping all night in a big bed), please send a Happy Gram to school. The teacher will read it aloud to the class, and it will be posted on the Happy Gram board in the classroom. We've enclosed a sheet of four Happy Grams to get you started; however, you can always just send a little personal note on your own stationery detailing your daughter's positive behavior or good deed. Be sure to pin it to the outside of her book bag and to include her full name.
Personal "Security" at Rest Time:
Some of the girls sometimes need a "lovey" of some type to help them to settle down at rest time. If your daughter needs something, we ask that it be small, soft, and cuddly and fit easily into her book bag.
After School Activities and Carpool:
You may have noticed that there is a lot happening on the Mater Campus after school on most days. As a result of this success, we've had to make a carpool change. We ask you to park and come in to get your daughter if she is participating in any after school program. The teachers will have the girls ready and waiting, but we will not operate a carpool line.
Auction News:
A pink flyer is enclosed with this Childpost: Don't forget to buy your Patron Tickets for the Auction - "A Night in Montmartre" a tribute to the highest hill in Paris and home of the famed Sacré Coeur Basilica, which is scheduled for November 15, 2008. Patron Party tickets - $300 for 2 tickets. Patron Party tickets must be purchased by October 8 to have name recognition on the invitation. You don't want to miss out on a chance to bid on a trip to Paris which includes cooking classes at Le Cordon Bleu and Le Ritz Escoffier. Please see enclosed flyers for sponsorship and donor information. We are still looking for weekend getaways, fishing/hunting excursions, anything LSU/Tulane/Saints/Hornets/Zephyrs related.
Thank You.
To all who were able to attend the Mothers' Club and Fathers' Club meetings this week. We appreciate your willingness to be an active participant in life at Sacred Heart.
ASH Athletic Director Mike Barnes for helping us to "think pink" this week.
