March 14, 2008

During the next few days we will honor the lives of two of the most celebrated saints of the Catholic Church.  St. Joseph is usually honored on March 19, but because this day falls during Holy Week this year, the Congregation for Divine Worship has officially transferred this feast day to March 15.  St. Patrick is usually honored on March 17, and for the same reason we are asked to celebrate today, March 14.

St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus and the husband of Mary, is the patron of families.  He trusted God, obeying His directive to remain faithful to Mary.  He was both father and teacher to Jesus.  St. Patrick, the patron of Ireland, was a humble, pious, gentle man, whose love and total devotion to and trust in God should be a shining example to each of us.  He feared nothing, not even death, so complete was his trust in God, and of the importance of his mission to preach the word of God.

When we see our dads at carpool in the mornings before they head to their "regular jobs"—either opening car doors or making drop-offs—or when we watch them on the soccer or softball fields, we can't help but think of what dads do for their daughters (and sons!).  Like St. Joseph and St. Patrick, they are strong, they are devoted, they are compassionate, and they are caring.

This is the last Childpost you will receive until Friday, March 28.

Holy Week:

The forty days of Lent are almost at an end.  During Holy Week we remember the last days of Jesus and the great sacrifice He made for us.  Our Little Hearts and Preschool girls gathered today for a short chapel service led by the Toddler girls and their teachers.  They did a wonderful job of reminding us that we are each called to and must decide to "follow Jesus" in what we say and what we do.

Next Tuesday, N/PK/K girls will attend a Holy Week service with the Lower School.  Mrs. Perrilliat and Mrs. Tompkins, our Religion teachers, have prepared age-appropriate reenactments of the washing of the feet, as well as a celebration of the Last Supper.  The girls will learn about the "sad cross" of Good Friday and will rejoice in the "happy cross" of Easter Sunday.  If you would like to attend, we ask you to join us in the Nims by

8:00 a.m.

We ask you to be mindful of these holy days of our faith.  While attendance at Holy Thursday or Good Friday services might be too much for your child, perhaps you could manage a short visit to church on one of these days.  And while we know that colored eggs and Easter bunnies are on the minds of your little ones, we hope that you and your family will take time to celebrate the true meaning of the holiday at an Easter liturgy on Sunday.  He is risen!  Happy Easter!

ASH Spring Play:

The Avenue Players are currently presenting Rogers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella."  Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students, and $3 for children (12 and under), and are available at the door (Assembly Room on the Rosary Campus).  Performances continue tonight Friday (3/14) at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday (3/15) at

2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Mothers' Club and Fathers' Club Meetings:

There will be meetings on Tuesday, March 18, on the Rosary Campus.  The moms will meet at 8:00 a.m. in the Parlor and the dads will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Dining Hall.  Please make an effort to attend.

Congé Confetti Eggs!

If you are doing any Easter baking, please help us by saving empty eggshells for the Congé's Confetti Egg Booth.  The big eggshell drive is scheduled for the week of March 31-April 4, on the Mater Campus, so you might want to wait until then to turn them in.  The moms who chair the confetti egg committee will host a pizza party to the Little Hearts/Preschool and Primary School homerooms that bring in the most eggshells.  Empty egg cartons do not count; there must be eggs in the cartons!

Instructions for EGG-ceptional eggshell submissions:  Make a quarter-size hole in the egg and thoroughly rinse out eggshells with cold water.  Replace the clean shells in the egg carton.  Be sure to mark your daughter's name and homeroom on the carton!

The Confetti Egg moms could use some help from now until the Congé.  Work days are Tuesdays and Thursdays from after morning drop-off until about 11:00 on the Mater Campus.  Bring a friend!  Please contact Debbie McLanahan (dfmclanahan@yahoo.com) if you have questions.

Thank You:

. to all who sent in treats for Faculty Appreciation this week.  Everything was delicious!
