March 7, 2008
The teachers look forward to visiting with you next week to discuss your daughter's progress. Please remember that Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, March 12. There is no school for students on this day.
Progress Reports:
Progress Reports for prekindergarten and kindergarten were sent home through the U.S. Mail on Wednesday. If you do not receive one by Monday, please contact Kathy Marino in the office (kmarino@ashrosary.org.269-1233).
Toddlers and Nursery students do not receive Progress Reports. You received a Special
Communication from your daughter's teachers in January.
ASH Spring Play:
The Avenue Players will present Rogers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" on March 13-15. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students, and $3 for children (12 and under), and are available in advance at http://www.seatyourself.biz/ash/shop or at the door (Assembly Room on the Rosary Campus). Performances Thursday and Friday at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Enhancing Problem-Solving and Thinking Skills:
Discovery is so much of what learning is all about and is what we help your daughter to do each day. Making choices—or as we say in our prayer, making "wise" choices—is only possible if she has had the opportunity to explore cause/effect relationships, have conversations, enjoy creative play, participate in learning activities, develop social skills—and, yes, even follow school rules and routines. A child's ability to be innovative is a sign that she is learning to use her thinking skills to solve problems. We provide books, materials, and activities that encourage exploration and problem-solving, and it is the teacher's watchful eye that knows how to extend each individual child's learning to help her to increase her critical thinking skills while developing self-assurance and self-confidence.
Save Those Empty Egg Shells!
There are only seven weeks left until the Family Congé, and the Confetti Egg Booth Chairs are in need of empty egg shells. This is one of Congé's most popular booths, especially with the Little Hearts and Preschool girls. In preparation, the big eggshell drive is scheduled for the week of March 31-April 4, on the Mater Campus. The moms who chair this committee will host a pizza party to the Little Hearts/Preschool and Lower School homerooms that bring in the most dozens eggshells. Empty egg cartons do not count; there must be eggs in the cartons!
Instructions for EGG-ceptional eggshell submissions: Make a quarter-size hole in the egg and thoroughly rinse out eggshells with cold water. Replace the clean shells in the egg carton. Be sure to mark your daughter's name and homeroom on the carton!
The Confetti Egg moms could use some help from now until the Congé. Work days are Tuesdays and Thursdays from after morning drop-off until about 11:00 on the Mater Campus. Bring a friend! Please contact Debbie McLanahan (dfmclanahan@yahoo.com) if you have questions.
Reminders:
If your daughter still needs a "lovey" at rest time, please help us by reminding her that only a small stuffed animal or doll that can fit into her book bag is permitted.
Thank You:
. to all who sent in Hearty Snacks this week. We were able to send 114 snack bags to The Good Shepherd School because of your generosity.
. to those who participated in the Fun Run last week. It was a beautiful day, and those who attended had a great time.
. to those who sent in Mardi Gras throws for the Strive Center. They were picked up yesterday, and the Strive Center staff was overwhelmed with our donation.
