And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of children."
And he said, "Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you, but not from you, and though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love, but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies, but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward, nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be gladness; for even as He loves the arrow that flies, so
He loves also the bow that is stable.
-from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran
Parent Questionnaire:
If you have not yet done so, we ask that you return the questionnaire we sent home last week.
Manners of the Month: October
We've all heard the adage "practice makes perfect," but at Sacred Heart we add that "practice makes permanent,"-just what we aim for with regard to civil and courteous behavior. This month we are focusing on using "please" and "thank you" when speaking with family members, friends, and teachers. So often we hear "I need more juice," or "Give me the pink crayon," and we are trying to teach your daughters to be more polite in their requests and responses. "May I have more juice, please?" or "May I please use the pink crayon next?" coupled with a polite "thank you." We ask you to help us by practicing at home. Encourage your daughter to use these words, and model this behavior for her by using them yourself.
Grade Level Newsletters/Dining Hall Menu-October:
The girls are hard at work in their classes, and we want you to be aware of all that they are doing. Enclosed with this Childpost is the October newsletter for her grade.
We've also enclosed the Dining Hall menu for next month. Please keep it handy.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for next Thursday, October 2. There is no school for students on this day, nor or they permitted at the conference; however, care is available for her during the time of the conference only. A letter noting the time of your conference was included in last week's Childpost. Please contact her teacher if you have a scheduling concern. Please, no infants or siblings.
Grandparents are Special:
Next Friday, October 3, we invite all Little Hearts and Preschool Grandparents and Special Friends to visit from 10:30-11:30 a.m. The enclosed invitation gives details. If your child does not have a grandparent who is able to come, please be sure to have a special adult friend (or aunt or uncle) join her.
Book Fair and Boutique News:
The Book Fair and Boutique event is right around the corner (October 6-10). Enclosed with this Childpost is a special invitation for you to attend Breakfast with Books with your daughter. Thanks to the Book Fair Committee, you can enjoy a light breakfast (located in the foyer of the Nims Center), and then do a little shopping. If you are unable to attend at your grade's designated time, please see the flyer for other times that the book fair and boutique will be open. The array of books is remarkable, and the boutique items are interesting and fun. It's a wonderful opportunity to get lots of Christmas shopping done.
After School Music:
Yesterday morning two adorable young violinists entertained us at the PK/K morning assembly. Both are students at Tots-n-Tunes. Tots-n-Tunes will be offering private lessons, taught after school, on the Mater Campus. A flyer is enclosed if you are interested.
