Academy of the Sacred Heart
Childpost
May 9, 2008
This Sunday we celebrate Mother's Day, and how fitting that this morning our Little Hearts girls had their May Crowning and invited their mothers to join them for this touching and lovely event. The relationship between mother and child is truly special. The bond Our Lady had with her son, Jesus, is certainly like the one each mother has with her child. There are moments of joy, sorrow, worry, tenderness, exasperation-the list in endless-and surrounding all is love.
To all mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and those who care for your daughters, we wish you a very Happy Mother's Day! Your job is one of the hardest-and most rewarding-in the world.
Used Uniforms:
Next week, May 12-16, there will be a table set up in the lobby with used uniforms. Please feel free to drop by and pick up what you may be able to use for next year. Extra uniform collars are available in the bookstore or Inka's will change them if your order is in before May 31.
PK Zephyrs Field Trip:
The PK girls will head to the ball park on Tuesday, May 13. Your daughter should wear her ASH red shorts/ASH white t-shirt and school shoes with socks. Don't forget to apply sunscreen at home! The festivities begin at Noon. The parent tickets for those who will join them are included with this Childpost.
Mothers' Club Luncheon:
All moms are invited to the end-of -year luncheon on Wednesday, May 14, at the home of Edie Pitt, 500 Walnut Street, near Audubon Park. It's not too late to RSVP to Kathy Garaudy (kgaraudy@bellsouth.net,
739-2320).
Ladies of Liberty:
National columnist and broadcaster, Cokie Roberts, will visit the Mater Campus on Thursday, May 15. Parents, alumnae, and friends are invited to Tea with Cokie from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Roberts attended Sacred Heart until her father, the late U.S. Rep. Hale Boggs, moved the family to Washington, D.C. She graduated from the Sacred Heart school in Washington, Stoneridge Academy. She will be signing her new book, Ladies of Liberty. Please join us in welcoming her.
Preschool May Crowning:
The Preschool will have their May Crowning on Friday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel on the Rosary Campus followed by gouter in the front courtyard. All are invited to attend. Your daughter should wear her white dress uniform and white or black party shoes with socks to school. A blue or white ribbon or headband is acceptable. Also, please have her bring a simple flower from the garden to present at the altar during the open procession.
The girls will walk to the Chapel, and we ask you to meet us there. We will also walk to the Rosary Chapel earlier in the week for a practice for this event. The girls will return to the Mater Campus following gouter. Please pack your daughter's uniform in her book bag if she will stay for the afternoon. Should you choose to take her home, we ask that you pick her up from the Mater Campus and make sure to sign her out.
Kindergarten News:
As you know, Mrs. Guider's baby is due very soon, and today is her last day at school. Ms. Korbel,
who has served as an assistant in this class all year, will substitute, and Mrs. Julie Campo, a former ASH Kindergarten teacher will be serving as the assistant. Our prayers are with Mrs. Guider as she awaits the arrival of her first child.
Library Books:
Please return all library books immediately. They were due last week. The librarians are trying to inventory all books before the last day of school.
Dining Hall:
Last week we sent home bills to those who have a cafeteria balance due. Payment must be in cash. If you have any questions, please contact the Cafeteria Manager, Andrea Veal (891-2926).
A Mother's Love
Some day when our children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a mother, we will tell them:
ˇ She loved you enough to ask you about where you were going, with whom, and what time you would get home.
ˇ She loved you enough to insist that you buy a bike-that she could afford to give you-with your own money.
ˇ She loved you enough to make you return a Milky Way with a bite out of it to a drugstore and confess: "I stole this."
ˇ She loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that would have taken her
fifteen minutes.
ˇ She loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, disgust, and tears in her eyes.
ˇ She loved you enough to admit she was wrong and ask for your forgiveness.
ˇ She loved you enough to let you stumble, fall, and fall again, so that you could learn to stand alone.
ˇ She loved you enough to accept you for what your are, not what she wanted you to be.
ˇ But most of all, she loved you enough to say "no" when you hated her for it. That was the hardest part of all.
