The Middle School White soccer team competed in the Ivy League Tournament from January 30 - February 1, demonstrating fierce courage and confidence as they worked together to achieve their common goal of earning the championship title. In the quarterfinals, they dominated Christian Brothers, defeating them 5-0. Mariella Congeni '23 led the team in scoring with three goals, and Emily Bulloch '23 and Isa Forest '23 each added their own as well.

In the semifinals, the Cardinals faced a strong team from Newman. The two teams, who tied in their previous match-up, battled back and forth throughout the duration of the game. The Greenies were first on the scoreboard, but the Cardinals' responded when Martha Hammet '23 scored off of a long-range shot to tie the game before halftime. The excitement continued into the second half when Hammet added another goal to lead the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory.

The Cardinals took on the undefeated and #1 seeded Lusher Lions in a very exciting championship match. Martha Hammet '23 scored twice, once off of a corner kick and then again off of a free kick, to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with about seven minutes left in the game. But Lusher refused to give up and tied the game up at 2-2 to head into overtime.

Lusher quickly took the lead in overtime off of a free kick, but the Cardinals continued to fight back. With just a few minutes left, Mariella Congeni '23 carried the ball up the left side of the field and found the feet of Emily Bulloch '23, who fired the ball into the back of the net to even things back up at 3-3.

The championship match would be determined by penalty kicks, one of the most high pressure situations in all sports. After five kickers, the Cardinals and the Lions were tied once again at 4-4, with Martha Hammet '23, Paige Ready '23, Libby Payne '23, and Mariella Congeni '23 each finding the back of the net. The game would come down to sudden death. The Lusher kicker shot first, and goalkeeper Sinclair Nolan '23 came up with a huge save for the Cardinals. The victory rested on the shoulders of the next kicker Emily Bulloch '23. Bulloch remained calm and focused and placed the ball in the left side of the goal to give the Cardinals the Ivy League Championship!
