A group of 13 students and teachers at the Academy of the Sacred Heart spent a week in Nicaragua completing service work with Amigos for Christ, a nonprofit organization that facilitates water, health, education, and economic development in rural Nicaraguan communities. Sacred Heart students worked alongside locals to construct a new elementary school in the village of La Chusaca. Additionally, Sacred Heart donated used desks to the new school as a way to support education in another part of the world. ASH students and students from Sacred Heart sister schools in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Bryn Mawr, PA, and Greenwich, CT, helped load the desks being donated to Amigos for Christ to transport them from New Orleans to Nicaragua. The students were part of Rebuild New Orleans, a service project sponsored by the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.
