The Preschool program seeks to nurture the innate sense of wonder in each girl about herself and her world, and to help her cultivate an awareness that she is special—a gift from God. Throughout her Preschool years she is guided in a loving, Christian atmosphere that is rooted in the mission of Sacred Heart education and is sensitive to her ability and potential. A developmental curriculum emphasizes the joy of discovery and enables her to develop a positive self-concept, optimistic attitude toward learning, and essential readiness skills.
Encouraging creativity is a priority in the Preschool. Active participation in self-directed play and supervised lessons and activities facilitate motivated, meaningful learning in the early years. Learning centers where each girl is free to explore individual interests, exercise initiative, take risks, cultivate peer relationships, and develop resourcefulness and responsibility, provide the setting for individual and small group instruction. In addition, language arts lessons, storytelling, dramatic role playing, and relating and recording of personal experiences enhance language development. Blocks, puzzles, and games promote problem-solving skills and compliment sessions in math and science.
School success is largely dependent upon proper placement in the earliest years. Teachers and administrators carefully monitor each student's progress and communicate regularly with parents.
