Global Competencies :: Global Hearts
Our Global Education program in Pre & Lower School is a natural extension of our school’s mission, as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
Rather than simply increasing exposure to global content, we turned our focus to cultivating Global Competencies, which are the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and habits that students need to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and complex world. With the support of the Global Education Benchmark Group, GEBG (now the Institute for Global Learning), we convened a cross-divisional Global Education Committee to define a clear, mission-aligned framework that would guide global learning from toddlerhood through young adulthood.
As always, our work began with a close reading of our Goals and Criteria, anchoring our thoughts in the values that shape every dimension of Sacred Heart education.
Drawing also on the Asia Society’s frameworks for global learning, the committee collaboratively developed four core global competencies that reflect our mission and meet the needs of today’s learners:
- Investigate the World with Intellectual Curiosity and Cultural Literacy
- Recognize and Value Diverse Perspectives
- Communicate with Agility and Engage in Respectful Dialogue
- Take Responsible Action that Promotes Peace and Justice
