Cardinal Basketball Takes Part in Sacred Heart Network Tournament

Cardinal Basketball Takes Part in Sacred Heart Network Tournament

Written by: Vivian Real ’26

Over winter break, the Sacred Heart basketball team traveled to Washington, DC, to compete in the Sacred Heart Network Basketball Tournament. The tournament was hosted by the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart for the second year in a row. The tournament brought together five sister schools: Stone Ridge (MD), Bryn Mawr (PA), Carrollton (Miami, FL), Stuart (NJ), and ASH New Orleans.

On the court, ASH faced strong competition, opening the tournament against Carrollton, falling short 65-55. They remained resilient throughout the game after being down early and worked to cut it to ten points. They snapped back against Stone Ridge in their next game, securing a 47-37 win led by Libby F. with 20 points. In their final game, they faced Stuart, NJ, holding an eight-point lead before losing in the final minutes 54-45.

The trip not only offered on-court play, but it was also a fun community-building event for the team. After landing, they fit in a quick practice before pizza and ping pong, then went to the International Spy Museum. After their first two games, Stone Ridge hosted dinner for all five teams, mixing athletes from each school at each table. The teams also participated in a gift exchange between groups following dinner. The trip concluded with a tour of Washington D.C. monuments: the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument, the White House, the MLK Memorial, and the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials. Overall, the experience reflected Sacred Heart's Goal 4 by advancing meaningful community between the sister schools.
