Cardinals Softball Dominates Hynes in Season Sweep

Sacred Heart 5th/6th Take Lead And Never Look Back In Win Over Hynes.

Sacred Heart’s 5th/6th grade Softballers won big over Hynes 16-0 on Monday at Carrollton. Sacred Heart got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ruth F. ’33 singled, scoring one run, Evie B. ’32 singled, scoring two runs, Virginia W. ’33 singled, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored another run. The Cardinals scored five runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Ella H. ’32 singled, scoring one run, Sarah S. ’32 singled, scoring two runs, and Ruth tripled, scoring three runs. Sacred Heart scored six runs on five hits in the top of the third inning on run-scoring singles from Virginia, Charli H. ’33, and May M. ’33. Ella then knocked in a run on a tripled and Beatrice D. ’32 had a booming home run to cap off the exciting inning, adding another pair of runs. Sarah earned the win for The Cardinals on a near perfect outing. The righty gave up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking two. Virginia tossed two innings of zero-run ball for Sacred Heart in relief. The 5th grade hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out six and walking only one in her Sacred Heart debut. Sacred Heart accumulated 15 hits in the game in their dominating start to the season. Ruth drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sacred Heart  with four runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Sarah, Beatrice, Ella, Ruth, Charli, May, and Virginia each collected two hits for Sacred Heart in the winning effort.

The 5th/6th graders play in back-to-back days this week, playing host next to Willow on Wednesday, March 18 and again against Hynes on March 19.

 

Sacred Heart 7/8 Roll Past Hynes.

 Sacred Heart 7th & 8th grade team easily dispatched Hynes on Tuesday at Carrollton, 11-0. The Cardinals got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Rollins B ’30, Ann Frances H ’30, and Sarah S. ’32 each hit in one run. Sacred Heart then scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning from Amelia W. ’31, Adelle R. ’30, and Ann Frances H. ’30. Rollins then tripled, scoring two runs. Sacred Heart extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Lane V. ’30, Amelia, and Lane C '30. Sarah earned the win for Sacred Heart The righty gave up zero hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking none. Lane C. ’30 also had a strong showing in the circle, allowing one hit and zero runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking none. Sacred Heart piled up 14 hits in all during the game. Ann Frances went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Amelia, Ann Frances, and Rollins each drove in two runs for the Cardinals.
