Cardinal Basketball Marches On
The Cardinal Basketball team competed in their first two rounds of the LHSAA playoffs last week. First the Cardinals took on Catholic New Iberia in the Regional Round of the playoffs defeating the Panthers 57-15. Libby Fitzpatrick ’26 led the Cardinals in scoring with 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Rosie Varisco ’28 was the 2nd leading scorer with 12 points off the bench connecting on two threes in the contest. Leah Varisco ’26 turned in 10 points and 7 assists while Zoie Kelly ’29 tossed in 9 points. The Cardinals then faced off with D’Abronne Woods Charter School in their Quarterfinal matchup. The Cardinals got out to a fast 8-0 start. The Wolves then managed to chip at the Cardinals lead in the 1st half to cut it to 22-16. After halftime the Cardinals came out strong and were able to push their lead to 32-18. The Cardinals never looked back after capturing the lead to defeat the Wolves with a final of 49-32. Leah Varisco ’26 led the Cardinals with 16 points and 4 assists while Zoie Kelly ’29 was the 2nd leading scorer with 14 points. Libby Fitzpatrick ’26 rounded out the double digit scoring for the Cardinals with 13 points in the contest.

The Cardinal Basketball team traveled to Washington, DC, over winter break to compete in the Sacred Heart Network Basketball Tournament, facing strong competition while building meaningful community with sister schools from across the country.
