The Cardinal basketball team took on Hahnville High School on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and came away with a huge victory with a final score of 53-42. Libby Fitzpatrick ’26 led the team in scoring with a team high 20 points. Lily Varsico ’27 was the 2nd leading scorer with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Leah Varisco ’26 had 9 points and 6 assists. Sophie Lo ’26 chimed in with 6 points while Zoie Kelly ’29 and Rosie Varisco ’28 both turned in 4 points in the contest. The team then turned their attention to district opponent Booker T. Washington. The Cardinals got off to a slow start, down 21-18 at halftime but a 3rd quarter scoring spurt by Leah Varisco’26 who only had 1 point in the 1st half and finished the contest with a game high 20 points to lead the Cardinals to a 50-44 victory. Lily Varisco ’27 turned in 8 points while Sophie Lo ’26 had 7 points and Libby Fitzpatrick ’26 had 6 points. The Cardinals are ranked 3rd in the LHSAA Division III power rankings and are knocking on the 2nd seed’s doorstep.
