Cardinals Earn Two Wins in Demanding Week

The Cardinals soccer team embraced a very challenging week! While dealing with multiple injuries, they took on the Division I state champion, Mt Carmel Cubs. After going down 2-0 early, Sally Irwin ’26 was able to finish off a beautiful corner kick from Leah Varisco ’26 to pull within one goal. Unfortunately, there would be no more scoring in the game and the final score ended in a 2-1 Cardinal defeat.

Friday night brought on a new test in a match against multiple time state champion St. Thomas More in Lafayette. In a dominating performance from a possession standpoint, the Cardinals were able to come away with a 2-0 victory. The first goal was scored by senior captain Abby Truxillo ’26, and followed up with another beautiful header off of a corner kick from Sally Irwin ’26.

After a tough week the Cardinals limped into a match against Lafayette high school on a dreary Saturday. It wasn’t pretty, but they were able to come away with another victory. Once again, the only goal of the match was scored on a header by Sally Irwin ’26 off of a corner kick from Leah Varisco ’26.

This week on Wednesday the Cardinals will host De La Salle for Senior Night, followed by another tough match against Division I powerhouse,  St. Joseph’s Academy!
