Cardinals Finish Season with Strong Playoff Run
The Cardinal basketball team wrapped up its season last week after competing in the LHSAA Semifinals against Rosepine, falling 56–44. Early shooting struggles combined with foul trouble slowed the Cardinals’ start, and they entered halftime trailing 27–13.
In the third quarter, Leah Varisco ’26 sparked a comeback with her defensive intensity, helping the Cardinals cut the deficit to just one point at 39-38 in the 3rd Quarter. However, Rosepine responded with a hot shooting streak, and the Cardinals were unable to generate enough defensive stops down the stretch.
Zoie Kelly ’29 led the Cardinals with 18 points, while Varisco added 13 points and 5 steals. Although the season did not end as the Cardinals had hoped, the team’s hard work and success throughout the year did not go unnoticed, and they should be proud of their accomplishments this season.

During Mardi Gras, Sacred Heart partnered with Grounds Krewe’s Recycle Dat initiative, hosting a recycling hub along the St. Charles parade route to help make Carnival celebrations more sustainable. Volunteers across eight stations diverted more than 15,000 pounds of recyclable materials and throws from landfills.

The Cardinal Basketball team traveled to Washington, DC, over winter break to compete in the Sacred Heart Network Basketball Tournament, facing strong competition while building meaningful community with sister schools from across the country.
