On a rainy and cold Saturday, members of the Indoor Track and Field team participated in the LSU High School Qualifier.  These athletes have been practicing for the last 6 weeks, preparing themselves for this first opportunity of their indoor season.  Jane Farnsworth '26 started the meet off for the Cardinals in the 60 Meter hurdles and attacked each of the 5 hurdles with precision and aggressiveness.  Next up was Arabella Lara '27 making her Indoor debut in the High Jump.  She had 3 successful clearances and just missed the 5' 00" height, to finish in 8th out of 22 jumpers.  The 4 × 800 meter relay was comprised of 4 runners all in the 8th grade, ran outstanding and finished 5th place overall out of 16 teams in a time of 10:50.71

    Nearly 2 hours later, Angelina and Bailey lined up together in the same heat of the 1600 meters and both ran with all they had for the 8 laps.  Angelina raced to the lead and went stride for stride with another runner and crossed in 2nd in her heat in a personal best of 5:54.13 and Bailey finished in 6:12.04.  Last up for the Cardinals was Claire Donnelly in the open 400 Meters in heat 9 out of 21.  Claire pushed early and took to the lead with 150 meters to go and extended her lead as she raced to the finish line in a New School Record of 1:04.01, breaking a 12 year old record and finishing 18th out of 75 finishers.

    The meet was a great success for all of those that participated and kicked off the Indoor season with a bang.  February 7 is the next opportunity for athletes to compete and try to qualify for the State Championship on February 21.
