On Wednesday, Sacred Heart faced Mount Carmel. The Cardinals fought hard in a close match up but finished the evening with their first team loss of the season. Second and third doubles both had strong showings, with Georgia Dazet ’29 and Laine Suhren ’29 winning 6-3, 6-1, and Zoe McCall ’28 and Elodie Scafidel ’26 finishing 6-2, 6-1. Both singles lines faced tough opponents. Emmeline Singer ’26 lost 3-6, 4-6 to a highly ranked junior player, and Becca Mogabgab ’29 fell to a strong opponent 1-6, 2-6. With the match tied, all eyes turned to first doubles, where Charlotte Jenkins ’27 and Elise Scafidel ’28 battled for nearly 3 hours. The pair split sets, and the match came down to a third set tiebreaker. It was an amazing effort, but the pair lost 6-4, 3-6, 4-10. The Cardinals are taking their first loss in stride and learning from this great practice for their next match up against rival Isidore Newman!
