Soccer Cardinals Battle to the Semifinals

In soccer news, the Cardinals continued their journey through the playoffs in their regional round playoff matchup with a decisive 7-0 victory against Leesville High School.

The Cardinals were led in scoring with 3 goals by Abby Truxillo ’26. Other goals were scored by Emily Guider ’26, Leah Varisco ’26, Colette English ’27, and Amelie Allen ’28

The Cardinals then took on Vanderbilt Catholic in a quarterfinal matchup of the Division III playoffs on Mardi Gras day. Two of the most beautiful goals of the season were scored in this match. The first one was by Vivian Real ’26, who buried a ball in the upper left-hand corner of the goal from inside the penalty area. Shortly after, Lucy Mason ’26, hit a one touch blast into the upper right hand corner of the net from about 30 yards out. This gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead at halftime, where the score would remain throughout the duration.

Next up was a rematch of last year's semifinal against the 3 time defending state champion, Parkview Baptist Eagles. The Cardinals went down 2 goals early before Leah Varisco ’26 made a run up the left sideline and buried the ball between the goalkeeper and the near post. The Cardinals were down 2-1 at halftime. Unfortunately, after multiple opportunities in the second half, the ball seemed like it just didn’t want to find the back of the net.

It was a very emotional day, but the 10 seniors, who all played a crucial role to this team, can hold their heads high. They are leaving this program in a great place because of all of the work that they did for the last 4, and in some cases five, years.
