Strong Showing for Cardinal Soccer in Three-Match Stretch

Soccer

The Cardinal soccer team finished up a busy week with three tough matches. The week started with a trip to Thibodaux to take on Thibodaux High School. In what proved to be a very physical game, we were able to prevail with a 3-1 victory. Leah Varisco ’26 continues, to score from her outside back position and added another two goals to her tally. Colette English ’27 also scored to seal the victory.

A few days later was a tough match against what has been one of the top Division IV teams, and finalist from last year. Though we had quite a few opportunities to score, it just wasn’t our day to find the back of the net and we finished with a 0-0 draw.

The following day, the Cardinals took on the number 1 ranked Division I, Dominican High School.  Led by a strong defense of Ellie Habetz ’26, Sally Irwin ’26, Leah Varisco ’26, Campbell Smith ’29, and Coco Varisco ’30, we were able to hold a team that has scored 67 goals throughout the course of this season, to zero goals. While we were disappointed to not be able to come away with victory, it was a very strong effort in a game that also ended in a 0-0 draw.

Next up, is a tough match Wednesday with last year’s Division I State Champions, Mt Carmel Cubs, followed by a road trip to Lafayette to take on perennial Division II powerhouse, St. Thomas Moore.
