Halloween Safety Tips
What you can do to keep safe this Halloween:
- For children of all ages - "stay with your group."
- Only enter homes with a parent's prior permission and only approach homes that are well-lit both inside and outside.
- Teach children to NEVER approach a vehicle unless they are accompanied by an adult, even if it appears no one is inside the vehicle.
- Always stay in well-lit areas, never take shortcuts and never go into isolated areas.
- If driving to a location for Halloween (or at any time) be sure to look out the windows of the car before opening the car door to exit –– be sure it is SAFE to get out of the car and that no one is near the vehicle (walking, biking, standing, etc.)
- If a child is going out with peers, be sure to talk about where they may go, who they will be with, and ask that they "check in" with a parent during their time away.
- Check candy and other treats before eating.
- Additional safety tips may be found at the Center for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
From all of us at Academy of the Sacred Heart, have a safe and Happy Halloween!
