3rd and 4th Grade Clubs are a robust opportunity for students to actively engage in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart. Facilitated by faculty but led by students, This Girl Can Clubs allow 3rd and 4th grade students to:
- Engage in a year-long leadership project
- Develop global competencies
- Work collaboratively within our school community and beyond
- Share accomplishments during the This Girl Can Club Fair in May

Scraps: This Girl Can CREATE
Scrapbooks are books of memories that act as both a creative outlet and as a preservation of memories! In Scraps: This Girl Can CREATE, students will create their own scrapbooks using recycled and handmade paper. They will fill the books with memories (mementos and pictures) from the 2022-2023 school year. The students will use various artistic media such as paint, colored pencils, and pastels to decorate their books. Additionally, they will learn to make their own envelopes to store mementos and their own paper for decorations. In choosing what to include in their scrapbooks, students will be reflecting on their own lives. They will also learn about the history of scrapbooks and how scrapbooks can provide a glimpse into the past to teach diverse perspectives.
ASH Spirit Club: This Girl Can Strengthen Community
The ASH Spirit Club will lead the Preschool and Lower School in a school-wide initiative to show ways in which students can change the world through the spirit of Sacred Heart. Students will show kindness and service to their community, consideration for others, and pride in their love for The Academy of the Sacred Heart. This club will explore the ways we can promote our genuine passion and love we all share for our school!
ASH Network: This Girl Can Connect with the World
Investigating the world around us is a part of a Sacred Heart education and our unique network of schools throughout the world provides an opportunity for students to interact with students from various cultures. In the ASH Network Club, This Girl Can explore the Network of Sacred Heart Schools throughout the world, interact with visiting global exchange students, and develop a deeper understanding of the opportunities available as a child of the Sacred Heart.
Thespian Club: This Girl Can Act
Third graders will explore theater in various ways. Students will produce one-act plays by learning scripts, acting out scenes, collecting props, and creating scenery. This process is a wonderful way for students to express themselves. As a culminating activity, the club will perform in front of grades 1-4 at the end of the year
Sophie’s Spirit: This Girl Can share the heart of Jesus
In the Campus Ministry Club, students will learn public speaking and leadership skills as they organize, plan, and facilitate Friday chapels. Friday Chapels are a cherished tradition for the preschool and lower school. Students will be responsible for bringing the weekly Gospel message to the preschool and lower school community every Friday. Students will also help choose, write, and lead prayers as well as songs.
Handbell Club: This Girl Can share the love of music!
Students will learn a variety of music to perform on our Schulmerich Melody Chimes. The students will be learning to read from a handbell score in both clefs, learning basic handbell technique, and learning to ring as a choir. Students will learn how to conduct a choir of their peers, and will be skyping with a handbell choir within the Network of Sacred Heart schools.
Cardboard and Coding: This Girl Can Save the World with Cardboard and Code!
The United Nations has 17 Sustainable Development Goals that are “the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.” To help kids better understand how they can help make a difference in the world, the UN has created Climate Action Heroes. Each hero tackles a different world problem such as the “Recycle Ranger” who recycles all plastics, paper and glass, or the “Water Wizard” who takes 5-minute showers and turns off the water when brushing her teeth. Students will learn about each hero and select the one that most interests her (or the group). They will turn a robot into their chosen Climate Action Hero and construct a cart with tools to attach to it for the purpose of conquering the obstacles faced by each hero.
