Upper School at ASH

Grades 9–12

There is a lot to consider when choosing the right high school in New Orleans. The educational choices are much broader than 10 years ago – Catholic, charter, private, independent, magnet and others. So what makes Sacred Heart special?

Our Upper School program delivers a demanding college preparatory curriculum that integrates multi-disciplinary science, technology, engineering, arts, math – an education that emphasizes a unified global perspective.

AP School Honor Roll badge 2023

Sacred Heart has earned Platinum recognition on the College Board's AP® School Honor Roll for 2023. View details of the AP Score Report >

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

Sacred Heart is also proud to be a recipient of College Board's® Female Diversity Award for AP Computer Science Principles. Research shows that female students who take #APCSP in high school are more than five times as likely to major in computer science in college.

Global Perspective:

As part of the Network of Sacred Heart schools – an organization with more than 150+ national and international schools in 41 countries – we offer a one-of-a-kind, authentic Global Exchange program in New Orleans. Qualified students stay with a host family and attend another school in the national or international Sacred Heart Network for several weeks. Then, they return the favor, hosting a student here in NOLA and forming sisterhood bonds for life.

Flexible Scheduling:

Sacred Heart’s Upper School operates on a semester basis with flexible scheduling – so there is room for small-group instruction, independent study and the possibility of taking courses at local colleges.

AP & Online Classes:

Sacred Heart also offers Advanced Placement (AP) and honors courses – both on campus and online – in more than 20+ subjects.

National Honor Society:

Pursuing the goals of scholarship, leadership, and service, the Academy of the Sacred Heart National Honor Society wants to help students in need. Any student in the Upper and Middle Schools can request a tutor and teachers or parents can request a tutor for a student. NHS tutoring is limited to once a week and ten sessions with the same tutor each semester.

Service Learning:

As a junior, you will participate in the school’s Community Service Program, designed to instill moral courage, compassion and a proper sense of duty in the NOLA community. Seniors commit to 50 hours of service in the community, near and far, during their final year of Upper School.

NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts):

The Upper School is a NOCCA-friendly school with multiple students participating in both the half day and after school programs at NOCCA. Students participating in the half day program schedule all core class in the morning and leave Sacred Heart before lunch.
