Trishala Bhansali ’06: on Brands

Trishala Bhansali image

Trishala Bhansali ’06 wears her heart on her sleeve, often in the form of hand-spun, naturally dyed muslin. As the founder of Lekha, a fashion brand rooted in heritage craftsmanship and slow fashion, Trishala has woven her personal story, Sacred Heart education, and creative drive into something much bigger than clothing.

Born from a desire to merge her Indian heritage and New Orleans upbringing, Lekha reflects Trishala’s lifelong love of textiles and her deep belief in women’s empowerment. After earning a degree from NYU and working as a luxury fashion buyer in New York, Trishala realized she wanted more than a career, she wanted impact.

“At Sacred Heart, we were taught from a young age that ‘this girl can change the world,’” she said. “That message has always stayed with me.”

Today, Lekha partners with Saheli Women, a female-owned artisan collective in rural Rajasthan. The brand connects the work of these skilled artisans to a global market, reinvesting in the community through girls’ education, library resources, and healthcare initiatives. Trishala’s commitment to slow fashion is a direct response to the environmental and human costs of fast fashion.

“We’re in a revival of craftsmanship—slowing down, honoring tradition, and appreciating the artistry passed through generations,” Trishala said.

Through Lekha, Trishala is creating a space where clothing carries stories, uplifts communities, and celebrates culture—proving that fashion can be beautiful, ethical, and enduring.
