The five years after graduating Sacred Heart are the longest and shortest years. Now in the professional world or pursuing advanced degrees, the members of the Class of 2015 are in much different places in their lives, but it feels like just yesterday that they were here within our gates.
In 2015, Sr. Melanie Guste, RSCJ and alumna from the Class of 1970 became Headmistress of the school, and the students were thrilled to welcome her back to campus with signature ASH hospitality! These seniors chose “Paint the Rosary Plaid” as their yearbook theme and dedicated it to Ashley Zito, an alumna, teacher and now Admissions Director.
Their senior story tells a tale of a very close class, one that came together for each other and drew support from the entire school community upon the passing of one of their own in their 8th grade year. Their classmate Shelby Leonhard’s memory lives on in the hearts of the school community today, and the blood drive held in her name continues to be one of the largest in the city.
Elizabeth Leggio was chosen as Mater from this class, and Helen Marsh was honored with the Mater Medal. Helen also led as President of Student Council, with Bond Bordelon as Vice-President, Megan Jackson as Secretary/Treasurer, Sarah McKendrick as Member-at-large, and Alana Garvey as Artist.
We wish that we could welcome these wonderful graduates back for their first honor year reunion around the fountain, but we know they’ll find other ways to celebrate. As Bond Bordelon wrote in the senior story, “[What you can’t see] is the love that the Class of 2015 has for each other or the unspoken promise that we will be there for each other no matter what. We may be going to college across the country, but there will always be a certain tether that brings us back to each other. This is the story of the Class of 2015, but it is not over, it’s just the beginning.”
