Sacred Heart Hosts Inaugural Stanley W. Ray, Jr. Relay in Audubon Park

The Academy of the Sacred Heart hosted the inaugural Stanley W. Ray, Jr. Relay cross country race on Wednesday, September 4 in Audubon Park. The relay was made possible by The Stanley W. Ray, Jr. Philanthropic and Civic Trust and was designed as an opportunity for local cross country teams to kick off their season. A total of 16 teams from 12 schools participated in the races for both middle and high school divisions. Participating schools included Sacred Heart, Newman, McGehee, Ursuline, Belle Chasse Middle School, Belle Chasse High School, Chapelle, John Curtis, Jesuit, Stuart Hall, Lusher and Holy Name.

Race Results:
The Sacred Heart A (25:20) varsity relay team of Olivia McGoey '21, Caroline Nusloch '21, Mariella Congeni '23 and Olivia Boyd '22 ran very well and came up just short with only 2 seconds separating them from Lusher Charter school, which finished first. 

The Sacred Heart B team of Emily LeBlanc '21, Olivia Gaines '20, CC Johnson '23 and Cali Jane Luetkemeier '23 also finished strong in 25:44 for 3rd place overall.  

In the JV 1 mile race, Andrea Bohorquez '20, finished first for the Cardinals in the JV 1 mile run in 6:42 with Audrey Lemann '21 in 7:00 and Ellie Sundell '20 in 7:04, following close behind.

The Academy of the Sacred Heart considers its Athletic Program to be an integral component of their students’ overall school experience. We introduce students to a wide variety of athletic experiences, while also offering opportunities for each student and team to make positive progress and reach a high level of success. Through participating in our programs, our student athletes develop skills in self-management, leadership, self-esteem, teamwork, sportsmanship and overall fitness. Known for its competitive teams in several sports, Sacred Heart held four state championship titles in the most recent school year, in Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, Golf and Track and Field.
