Three seniors at the Academy of the Sacred Heart formally signed their intent to participate in athletics at the collegiate level on April 20. Their combined athletic efforts represent nine LHSAA State and Runner-up titles on behalf of the school.
Mykhala Coleman will participate in Track & Field at Loyola University right here in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Cassidy Lambert will be a part of the Golf team at University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
Bailey Axelrad will play Volleyball at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey.
The three student-athletes were joined by their Sacred Heart coaches, families, and the entire senior class of 2021 to celebrate their decision to compete at the collegiate level.
“It's a tribute to their hard work and commitment to training over their years at Sacred Heart. We are honored to have three student-athletes who will continue to compete at the next level,” says Sue Bower, Director of Athletics at Sacred Heart.
Mykhala Coleman set a school record for shot put during her very first Track & Field meet in competition back in 2018. This past year, she finished third in the state for shot put in Indoor Track & Field. During her Sacred Heart career, she helped her team earn four LHSAA State titles: Indoor Track & Field in 2018 and 2019, and Outdoor Track & Field in 2018 and 2019. Mykhala received a partial athletics and academic scholarship to Loyola.
A six-year varsity Golf team member, Cassidy Lambert was a big part of the school's three straight State Runner-up in 2016, 2017 and 2018. In 2019, the golf team won State. She received a full Athletic Scholarship to the University of South Alabama.
A three-year Volleyball team member, Bailey Axelrad was a leader of the 2021 State Champion Volleyball Team, the first for the school in 12 years. During her volleyball career, Bailey earned All-District honors her sophomore and junior years, as well as rookie of the year. She received All-District, All-Metro and All-State selections her senior year. She received a partial academic scholarship to the University of South Alabama.
