Meet the Counselors & Student Support Team
The Counseling Department is responsible for the implementation and administration of a Developmental Counseling Program which supports the Goals and Criteria of Schools of the Sacred Heart. The Counseling Department assists students in furthering their educational, physical, social, and emotional well-being with all students from first through twelfth grades meeting in group on a regular basis with their Counselor to develop life skills. A College Counselor, School Nurse, Learning Specialists, and Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) comprise this Department.

Janice T. Foulks, MEd, LPC, the Director of Counseling and Counselor at the Mater Campus earned her M.Ed. in Counseling at Loyola University where she is a Member of the Visiting Committee for the College of Arts and Sciences. Her other community service has included the Crimestoppers Board of Directors, French Quarter Festivals, Inc., and Chair of the Special Events Committee Archdiocesan Catholic Cultural Heritage Center. In 2005 she received the Order of St. Louis Medallion for service to St. Louis Cathedral – Basilica.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) she was one of the first elementary counselors in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and has established Developmental Counseling Programs at three area schools. At Sacred Heart she meets all students in primary one through four throughout the year for group sessions building life skills, while she has selected activities with the Little Hearts and the Pre-School. She is a Practicum and Internship Site Supervisor for graduate students in Counseling Programs from the area universities. She received the St. Philippine Duchesne Award from the Sacred Heart Alumna Association in 2017 and is a member of the Formation to Mission Committee at Sacred Heart.

Katye Edrington Irwin, NCC, LPC-S, is a member of the Academy of the Sacred Heart graduating class of 1997 and in 2006 returned to Sacred Heart as Academic Division Counselor. Katye received her Bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University from the Manship School of Mass Communications. She received her Master of Education in Counselor Education from University of New Orleans.
At Sacred Heart she coordinates groups on a bimonthly basis with the all of the Academic Division students. She coordinates the Peer Support Program now in its 30th year and has been instrumental in implementing new endeavors such as the Louisiana State Police Sudden Impact Program in the Academic Division. She is an Advisory board member for LSU Department of Clinical Rehabilitation and Counseling.

Beverly Eden, LPN, was born and raised in New Orleans. She is a graduate of Louisiana Technical College. She is the married mom of four; three boys and one girl who is currently attending Kindergarten at Sacred Heart. Beverly has been working as a school nurse at Sacred Heart since October of 2018 and has loved every minute of her time here. Prior to working at Sacred Heart, she was the campus nurse at Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She is looking forward to many years and many more memories at Sacred Heart.

Allie Pierson is our new College Counselor. After earning her Masters degree in Counselor Education, Allie started her career as a guidance counselor and college advisor to high school students at Mount Carmel Academy and then The St. Paul’s School in Covington, LA. She later developed a comprehensive K-12 College Counseling program for St. Tammany Parish School Board that she implemented in over 50 schools on the Northshore of New Orleans.
Her focus is a student- and family-centered approach to college counseling, and she brings a comprehensive program for our student starting in middle school and culminating with the graduating seniors.

Tricia Newton, NCC, LPC, graduated from the University of Alabama in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then received her Masters of Arts in School and Community Counseling from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. The Lower and Middle Schools at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, along with the Thomas E. Chamber Counseling and Training Center, were the sites for her practicum and internships during graduate school. As Counselor, she has implemented numerous local and national programs/speakers. These programs have included: The Kind Campaign; Public and Permanent: Promote Responsible Use, Prevent Abuse; The Embody Love Movement; and The Council on Drug and Alcohol of Greater New Orleans.

Mindy DeHart Louviere, R.N., was born in raised on the West Bank of New Orleans. She graduated from Charity School of Nursing in 2004. She is ACLS, and PALS certified, and is also CPR instructor certified. Mindy is a member of the National Association of School Nurses, and the Louisiana Association of School Nurses.
At Sacred Heart she has initiated the Magnus Health System which is a web-based SMR (student medical record) designed specifically for schools. This system ensures effective time management and use of resources, while reducing liability, improving emergency preparedness, and maintaining compliance with HIPPA, FERPA, and state regulations. Mindy has two children Ashton, 8, and Allie, 6.

Stacy Crane, Ph.D., born and raised in New Orleans, has spent her entire career as a learning specialist providing language and academic intervention to students in the New Orleans area. She received both her Bachelor’s and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees in Special Education from the University of New Orleans. Her Master’s degree in Communication Disorders was obtained from LSU Health Science Center – New Orleans School of Allied Health. For the past 20 years, Stacy has worked with Sacred Heart students from preschool through high school. Her ongoing contact with ASH faculty and students fostered her desire to be a part of the Sacred Heart Family. In 2015, Stacy joined the Academy of the Sacred Heart as a Lower School Learning Specialist. She works with students, teachers, and administration on a daily basis addressing learning needs in the classroom.

Kristen Bendich joined our faculty in 2013 as the Middle School Learning Specialist. She has experience in working with students with a variety of learning needs including ADHD, dyslexia, processing disorders, etc. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 2001 with a degree in Communication Disorders. She went on to receive her special education certification from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 2004 while teaching special education. She is also a certified ADHD coach.

Allison Suhren joined our faculty in 2016 as the Upper School Learning Specialist. She graduated from Rollins College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from Emory University. While teaching at Convent of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco, she completed a Certificate Program in Educational Therapy through UC Berkeley Extension. During this two-year program, her studies focused on educational approaches for evaluation, remediation, case management and advocacy on behalf of students with learning differences.
