Mater Mass 2021

On October 20, 2021, students, faculty and staff of Sacred Heart celebrated the Feast of Mater Admirabilis with an all-school Mass. The Mater Admirabilis (which translates to “Mother Most Admirable”) is a beloved representation of Mary that has become a symbol of our devotion to and celebration of the Mother of Jesus. This particular depiction of Mary as a young woman, is particularly poignant for the growing women of Sacred Heart.

All students were invited to participate in two locations with the mass live streamed. Archbishop Gregory Aymond, Deacon Richard Brady and Father Justin Daffon, SJ concelebrated the Mater Liturgy. Preschool students sang traditional hymns celebrating our love of Mary, and other students attending in the Nims Center participated in the Archbishop’s homily by answering how current students can try to embody the qualities of Mary.

Continuing one of the most beloved traditions at Sacred Heart, the senior class selected one of their peers who most embodies the qualities of Mary for the honor of portraying Mater. The class chose Juliette Camenzuli ’22.  Being chosen for this role is an honor for the student and her family, and the tradition also calls on each student to reflect on how to emulate Mary’s strength, faith and grace.
