Sacred Heart Welcomes New Faculty and Staff for 2020-2021 Year

The Academy of the Sacred Heart is pleased to welcome 11 new faculty and staff members for the 2020-2021 school year, as we continue to grow and educate tomorrow's leaders. Their names and biographies below follow the pictures above, starting at top left:

Sue Bower – Athletic Director
Sue joined Sacred Heart in May, bringing extensive experience in the field of athletics and a strong record of administrative leadership. She has successfully led programs at the secondary and collegiate levels in athletics, both in New Orleans and in other cities. Sue was attracted to Sacred Heart for its reputation for giving young ladies the opportunity to grow both intellectually and spiritually, as well as its strong athletic traditions. Sue is excited to work with an outstanding leadership team and help the school not only maintain but enhance its excellence in athletics.

Angela Dean – Upper School English
Angela joins Sacred Heart with twelve years of experience teaching Middle and High School English. For the last two years, she has taught English I and English IV at Jesuit High School; however, she previously worked at an all-girls high school, Ursuline Academy of Dallas, where she taught English II and English II Honors and acted as the English Department Chair during her last year. After relocating to New Orleans from California, Angela taught 6th-8th grade English at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and worked as the K-8th grade English Department Chair. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking with her dogs, practicing yoga, and reading. 

Courtney Jansen – Upper School Religion and Campus Minister
Prior to joining the Sacred Heart community, Courtney served as the Director of Camp Abbey in Covington, LA and as the Director of Religious Education at a local Catholic school. Courtney holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communication Studies from Loyola University Chicago, a Master's of Arts from LSU in Education Administration, and a Master's in Pastoral Leadership from Notre Dame Seminary. Additionally, she is a commissioned Lay Ecclesial Minister for the Archdiocese of New Orleans.  Courtney is a New Orleans native and enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and daughter; baking; and planning their next vacation.

Frances Rodriguez - Middle School Art
Frances is an artist and art educator, whose work you may have seen around New Orleans. Originally from Montgomery, AL, she attended the Rhode Island School of Design (B.F.A Textile Design), and Loyola University in New Orleans (M.S. Counseling). For the past several years, Frances has taught children and adults from her uptown studio, and is thrilled to be joining the middle school team at Sacred Heart! Through teaching, Frances strives to share her love of the creative process and encourage the flame of creativity inherent in every child. Away from the studio, Frances enjoys spending as much time as possible outside, with her husband, two children, and two dogs. 

Cory Rousset - Preschool and Lower School French
Cory is a native of New Orleans having graduated from the University of New Orleans and attended high school at Ridgewood Preparatory Academy in Metairie. Most recently, Cory taught at Académie de Rennes and Académie de Montpellier through the French National Ministry of Education in France. In addition, Cory’s diverse background and extensive experience internationally and with the French Consulate in New Orleans makes him an asset to our World Language Department. 

Tiaka Snaer – Preschool Co-teacher
Tiaka is a graduate of Xavier University, in New Orleans, LA.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and holds a Master's in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University. Her experience includes teaching at KIPP New Orleans and Homer Plessy School, where she served as a lead teacher in prekindergarten and kindergarten. Tiaka is a passionate and collaborative educator who is looking forward to joining our Sacred Heart Community.  

Amanda Steen - Fourth Grade 
A graduate of the University of Virginia, Amanda has over seven years of teaching experience. In addition, she holds a Master's in Teaching from UVA, with a certification in PreK through 6th grade. Amanda is a New Orleans native and is a graduate of Dominican High School. Most recently, Amanda spent a year in Prague where she taught English to children and adults and observed new teachers-in-training. Amanda’s previous experience includes teaching at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, LA, where she taught both first grade and fourth grade.

Lilly Suthon – Little Hearts
Lilly graduated from the Rosary in 2016 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a double minor in Criminology and Forensic Science from Loyola University New Orleans in May of 2020. She has spent the last two school years at Sacred Heart as an aftercare employee and substitute teacher for the Little Hearts program. 

Parjest Thevenard - Middle School French
Parjest grew up in Long Island, New York in a multicultural and multilingual family. After earning a B.A. in International Studies, she led service learning trips in the Caribbean and pursued advanced degrees in French Language, Literature and Civilization at Middlebury College and New York University. She lived, worked and traveled in France for about 5 years before moving to New Orleans, which she is delighted to call home. Her experience teaching French spans PreK4 through university levels in traditional, immersion, experiential and professional arts education settings. She is happy to join the ASH community!

Kenneth Uhlich – Chief Engineer
Kenneth brings over 20 years of experience as a chief engineering professional in a variety of venues including commercial buildings, hotels, and hospitals. He holds a 1st Class A/C license and licenses in Boilers and Combustion Engines. For four years, Kenneth directed the construction of a new commercial property in the CBD of New Orleans while coordinating the capital improvements of the existing structure. In 2014, he was recognized by Trane Air Conditioning for his focus on improving employee and staff safety. Before his roles as an engineer, Kenneth was the co-owner of an oil field supply company. He also served the citizens of Jefferson Parish as a reserve sheriff deputy for 17 years.

Seth Wilbur – Upper School U.S. History and Economics
Seth graduated from the University of Texas in 2016 and since has taught in Spain and Dallas, Texas.  He holds a master’s degree in Education from Texas A&M University and is currently pursuing a master's degree in History from the University of New Orleans. He is an avid traveler and looks forward to sharing his love of culture and history with his students.
