The Cardinals got the scoring going early in the 1st inning after a couple of quick stolen bases by Lane C. ’30 and a crafty run batted in by Adair J. ’31. They then added to their lead in the 2nd inning with runs from Mazie S. ’31, Lucy B. ’30, Lily C. ’30, and Louise H. ’30 to go up 5-0. In the 3rd inning, the girls doubled their already strong lead. Sydney S. ’30 and Amelia W. ’31 both walked to start that inning, setting up Ann Frances H. ’30 who crushed a line drive Triple to the Left Field fence, sending her two teammates across home plate to go up 8-0. Lucy B. ’30 and Lily C. ’30 then each scored their second of the game to close out the scoring for the day. Speedster Lucy B. ’30 led the team with 3 stolen bases on the day. Lane C. ’30 pitched 2 shutout innings with 4 strong Strikeouts to en route to earning her first win of the season.

Adelle R. ’30 then came in relief, pitching one hitless inning and striking out 2 to secure the shutout. On Thursday, Sacred Heart 5/6 Softball team continued its shutout streak, scoring five runs in the first inning and defeating Willow 6-0! Lane C. ’30 opened up the scoring surge in that opening frame, on a RBI groundout from Sydney S. ’30. Adelle R. ’30 plated two more when she tripled on a hard hit line drive that went straight to the outfield fence, eventually scoring herself on an overthrow during the same play. Ann Frances H. ’30 singled, scoring one run, and Lucy B. ’30 also singled, hitting in another. A single by Adelle R. ’30 later extended the Sacred Heart Cardinals lead to 6-0 in the top of the third inning. Starting pitcher, Lane C. ’30, had a huge day in the circle, ensuring that her opening run would be more than enough by earning the win on a complete game shutout performance for the Cardinals. She gave up only two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out eleven and walking none!

Adelle R. ’30 drove the middle of the lineup, leading Sacred Heart with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 at the plate on the day and also flashed the glove with a clutch catch on a red hot line drive down the first base line, robbing Willow’s big hitter of a multi-base hit in the bottom of the last frame.  Sacred Heart Cardinals had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Adair J. ’31 and Lane C. ’30 led the team with two walks each. Ann Frances H. ’30, Lane C. ’30, and Mazie S. ’31 each stole multiple bases for girls in red.

All in, Sacred Heart Cardinals stole seven bases in the game. Next up for Cardinals Softball is a big game at John Curtis on Wednesday.
