Sacred Heart Annual Blood Drive Draws Nearly 100 Donors
The Academy of the Sacred Heart held its annual Blood Drive on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 in honor of Shelby Ryan Leonhard, a Sacred Heart student who lost her battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2011. Between the blood drive hours of 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 92 donors presented, and 74 donated successfully. The drive took place in the Colton Arts Center on the Academy of the Sacred Heart Rosary Campus located at 4521 St. Charles Avenue.
This year marked the 10th anniversary blood drive since it was established. The drive is hosted annually at Sacred Heart, where both Shelby and her younger sister Barrett attended school. Over the years, it has become one of the largest blood drives in the city that the Ochsner Blood Bank facilitates. All blood goes toward filling blood needs in the New Orleans community.
