Sacred Heart Community Mobilizes in Support of Hurricane Laura Victims
hurricane laura relief drive

In response to the tragic damage caused in the Lake Charles, LA area by Hurricane Laura in late August, members of the Sacred Heart National Honor Society took the initiative to organize a donation drive of urgently needed items. In partnership with ResQue, Sacred Heart families, faculty and staff collected a variety of items, remembering the feeling of need and outpouring of support that many in New Orleans experienced after Hurricane Katrina.

To facilitate the collection and in keeping with standing COVID-19 safety protocols, National Honor Society members collected items from families via the carpool lines, while wearing masks and gloves.

At the end of the drive, members of ResQue arrived at school to pick up the large amount of donations that were collected at both campuses. The ResQue crew members were touched by our students' leadership, the generosity of our families, and the enthusiasm of the students who assisted them in the loading.

We appreciate the outpouring of support from our community and the example of service, and we thank members of the National Honor Society, NHS moderator and Upper School faculty member Ricky Bordelon and Community Outreach and Partnership Coordinator Jana Fogleman for organizing this drive to benefit our neighbors in need.
