In addition, Lillian Balart (above, left) has received the National Hispanic Recognition, and Céci Curran (above, right) has received the National African-American Recognition.

Olivia, Juliette, Olivia and Sloane are among the approximately 16,000 students across the country (representing less than 1% of high school seniors) who will now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for over 7,000 scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring.

Semifinalists from each state are selected based on their high scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). From this stage in the competition, semifinalists must submit a detailed application, and they will be notified in February whether they advance to Finalist level in the competition.

Sacred Heart's two Commended Students - Katherine Wise and Laney Calhoun - are among the approximately 34,000 top-scoring students across the nation (representing about two percent of high school seniors) who will receive letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
