The Academy of the Sacred Heart is proud to announce that four members of the Class of 2022 have been named as National Merit Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Four students have also received National Merit recognition.
Congratulations to National Merit Semifinalists (front row, left to right): Olivia Boyd, Juliette Camenzuli, Olivia Finch and Sloane Paysse and Commended Scholars (back row): Katherine Wise and Laney Calhoun.
In addition, Lillian Balart (above, left) has received the National Hispanic Recognition, and Céci Curran (above, right) has received the National African-American Recognition.
Olivia, Juliette, Olivia and Sloane are among the approximately 16,000 students across the country (representing less than 1% of high school seniors) who will now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for over 7,000 scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring.
Semifinalists from each state are selected based on their high scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). From this stage in the competition, semifinalists must submit a detailed application, and they will be notified in February whether they advance to Finalist level in the competition.
Sacred Heart's two Commended Students - Katherine Wise and Laney Calhoun - are among the approximately 34,000 top-scoring students across the nation (representing about two percent of high school seniors) who will receive letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
