Continuing a streak of several consecutive years, a team of Upper School financial literacy students have been named semi-finalists in the Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge (TYCIC), a partnership between Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans (JA), the Brees Dream Foundation and The Idea Village. The Sacred Heart team - consisting of Sophia Zollinger ’21, Brookelynn Watkins ’21, Gracie Jenkins ’21 and Elizabeth Toso ’21 - is among 20 teams of semi-finalists across the New Orleans area who were recognized in a press conference Monday evening and had the opportunity to meet Drew Brees.

Over 2,500 students from nearly 25 schools throughout the Greater New Orleans area participated in this year's competition. The "crazy" idea from the Sacred Heart team: Gas on the Go, a mobile gas station that would fill up a car at home or work.

ASH faculty member Aubry Miller, who teaches the Upper School Financial Literacy Class, says, “The Junior Achievement TYCIC aligns perfectly with our curriculum in the Financial Literacy class because it allows the students to test the knowledge that they have learned in the classroom outside of the walls of their normal routine.” Aubry, who owns two PJ's Coffee on Magazine shops and started the PJ's Coffee on the ASH Rosary campus, regularly seeks opportunities to expose her students to the challenges and opportunities in the business world for those with an entrepreneurial mindset.

As a next step, the 25 teams of high school semi-finalists will be assigned local mentors who will advise them in entrepreneurial concepts and will help fine-tune their business pitches before the Big Pitch on March 13, 2020. We wish these ASH Juniors luck as they continue on to the next phase of the contest!
