The Academy of the Sacred Heart is proud to announce that ten students have been named as National Merit Scholars in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Four members of the Class of 2024 have been named as National Merit Semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Congratulations to Ava A '24, Katherine B '24, Emma G '24, and Ava M '24.
Ava, Katherine, Emma and Ava are among the approximately 16,000 students (representing less than 1% of high school seniors) across the country who will now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for over 7,000 scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring.
Semifinalists from each state are selected based on their high scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). From this stage in the competition, semifinalists must submit a detailed application, and they will be notified in February whether they advance to Finalist level in the competition.
Additionally, three Sacred Heart students were named as Commended Students. Holly D '24, Maria E '24 and Emilie S '24 are recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test, though they will not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships. The three Sacred Heart Commended Students placed among the top five percent in the U.S.
Four students at Sacred Heart earned a National Hispanic Recognition Award from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs celebrate students' hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance. The academic honors for rural area, Black, Indigenous, and/or Latino students are an opportunity for students to share their strong academic achievements with colleges and scholarship programs that are seeking to recruit diverse talent. Congratulations to Ava A '24, Carolina K '25, Chiara B '25 and Isabelle D '24.
