The Sacred Heart community mambo'ed down the avenue on February 27-28 to get into the Carnival spirit.
Little Hearts, prekindergarten, kindergarten, and ASH-FIN students kicked off the festivities with the annual Krewe of Smocks parade to the theme of "Krewe of Smocks celebrates New Orleans," which paid homage to our hometown and local books read by students. Themed costumes included 610 Smockers, New Orleans Saints, Jazz Fest, and lots of New Orleans food.
The fun continued the next day on the Rosary Campus as eighth graders brought back an old ASH tradition of performing an eighth grade play. A culmination of a collaborative project between dance, art, music, and drama, the Class of 2023 presented Peter Pan Jr. Following the performance, they paraded around the fountain during the annual Krewe de Coeurs parade. Reigning as queen was CC Johnson '23.
The culminating event occurred in the afternoon as Sacred Heart teamed up with Sophie B. Wright Charter School for the Krewe of Fluff. A tradition for more than 10 years, the Sophie B. Wright band, dancers, and cheer team marched from their nearby campus to lead the Krewe of Fluff into the front courtyard. The ASH Class of 2019 followed in costumes set to the theme of “Groovy Gras” and tossed throws to students and other spectators. Faculty members, Ricky Bordelon and Leslie Schroth, were chosen by the senior class to reign as the 2019 Krewe of Fluff king and queen.
It was a jubilant celebration of Mardi Gras, community, and Sacred Heart's partnership with neighbor Sophie B. Wright. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
