On April 10, the golf team participated in the Cardinal Invitational at Timberlane. There were eight teams and 33 golfers playing in the tournament. This is the largest tournament the Cardinals have participated in all year long, and it was a great tune-up for Regionals and State. The Cardinals came away with the victory and had three golfers finish in the top four.
Cassidy Lambert '21 and Ava McGoey '24 were first to tee off for the Cardinals. Lambert hit a number of fairways and greens in regulation. When she did miss a fairway, she hit some incredible creative shots. She stayed calm all round and fired a 35, 1 under par. McGoey, who just returned from participating in the Drive, Chip and Putt championships at Augusta during the Masters, fired a score of 41. This was only the third high school golf match that she has participated in. The Cardinals had two low scores in the clubhouse already, and at that point, they waited for the other scores to come in. Grace Jin '22 hit off the box in the second group. She had her short game going strong. After nine holes, she recorded a score of 1 under par 35, which tied Lambert.
Tyla Keys '20 and Shannon Plough '20 both were in the fourth group going off the tee. They did not have their best day, but it was enough to help the Cardinals come home with the win. Some putts just did not fall for them, and they found a couple of hazards off the tee. They both were able to scramble and record a score to help the team.
After nine holes, Lambert and Jin were tied for the lowest score and the individual medalist. They both decided to have a playoff hole to determine the winner. The athletes teed off on hole number one, and after putting out and scoring a par, they were tied again. They both went back to the box to play the hole again. After getting to the green in 2, Jin drained a birdie putt, and Lambert made par. Jin was crowned the tournament champion, and the Cardinals earned the team title and individual title. Jin finished first, Lambert finished second, and McGoey finished fourth. All three golfers made the All-Tournament team.
