Kindergarten students have been learning about living and nonliving things and recently faced an engineering challenge related to this topic of study in their STEM class. Students identified the needs of animals (food, water, air, shelter) and used materials provided to design something to help the animals get from the floor to the top of the table where the food, water, and shelter was. They worked in teams using the design thinking process—ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve—for their designs.
