Mardi Gras Mambo at Sacred Heart
Mardi Gras Mambo at Sacred Heart

The Sacred Heart community spent the day mambo'ing down the Avenue on February 8 to get into the Carnival spirit.

Little Hearts, prekindergarten, kindergarten, and ASH-FIN students kicked off the fun with the annual Krewe of Smocks parade to the theme of "Celebrating Dr. Seuss," which honored the children's author and illustrator.

The festivities continued on the Rosary Campus as eighth graders went on a “Safari” during the Krewe de Coeurs parade, a Middle School tradition. Reigning as queen was Genesis Scott ’22. New this year, Krewe de Coeurs featured several choreographed dances around the fountain performed by the eighth grade.

The culminating event occurred in the afternoon as Sacred Heart teamed up with Sophie B. Wright Charter School for the Krewe of Fluff. A tradition for more than 10 years, the Sophie B. Wright band and dancers marched from their nearby campus to lead the Krewe of Fluff into the front courtyard. The ASH senior class followed in costumes set to the theme of “Galaxy Gras” and tossed throws to students and other spectators. Faculty members, Marcia Pastorek and Allie Pierson, were chosen by the senior class to reign as the 2018 Krewe of Fluff monarchs.

It was a jubilant day of celebrating Mardi Gras, community, and Sacred Heart's partnership with neighbor Sophie B. Wright. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
