Dear Members of the Sacred Heart Community,
It is with sadness and shock that we learned of Leslie Graf's sudden death on February 23. Ms. Graf has been a teacher at the Academy of the Sacred Heart for 45 years, beginning her service in 1972. Her service has been one of forming generations of students in their knowledge and understanding of mathematics. Ms. Graf served in the Middle School for most of her years, preparing students for higher level math in the Upper School. Her iconic presence has lifted the spirit of so many within our community, and we have all shared in the effervescence of her life and contagious spirit.
Now, while grieving her loss, we can celebrate that she is with us in a new way, extending to the children of the Sacred Heart and her colleagues her faithful generative love of Sacred Heart.
Please join us in praying for her family and for all of those at Sacred Heart, especially those in the Middle School, as they journey forward without Ms. Graf. May their memories sustain them in the days ahead.
We are preparing a Memorial Service at the Rosary Chapel. Details are pending. We will let you know about the arrangements.
May Leslie rest in peace.
As a community, we pray...
Beloved, into your hands,
we humbly entrust our sister Leslie.
In this life you embraced her with your tender and faithful love;
Deliver her now from every evil
and bid her enter eternal rest.
we humbly ask your mercy for your servant Leslie,
who worked so generously and tirelessly for children,
grant her the reward of her labors
and bring her safely home.
God of blessings,
source of all holiness,
the voice of your Spirit has drawn countless men and women
to follow Jesus Christ
and to bind themselves to you
with ready will and loving heart.
Look with mercy on Leslie
who sought to give of herself to the education of generations of children
and grant her the reward promised to all good and faithful servants.
May she rejoice in the company of the saints
and with them praise you forever.
May the most Sacred Heart of Jesus comfort the Sacred Heart community and Leslie's family, friends, and students in their loss and sorrow, lift them from grief into the peace and light of your presence.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Sr. Melanie A. Guste, RSCJ, Ph.D.
