Pledges are ways for families to demonstrate their commitment to support Sacred Heart's Annual Fund early in the campaign. Pledges can be fulfilled by cash, check, credit card or securities in one installment or monthly installments before June 30. Pledges are also asked to pay on the annual Greater New Orleans Foundation's GiveNOLA Day, a day of giving to non-profit organizations in the NOLA community. Make a pledge now here.

Sacred Heart welcomes any gifts of stock. Some people choose to make either an outright or deferred gift of assets such as stocks, bonds and property. Making a planned gift may allow you to give more than you ever thought possible, and at the same time, benefit from tax advantages or income for a term of years or life.

A gift of appreciated stock allows you to bypass capital gain tax that could be due if you sold the asset, and it also entitles you to a charitable deduction based on the property’s current value.

Planned gifts are made now and distributed at a later date. Including Academy of the Sacred Heart in an estate plan provides for the long-term fiscal health of the school. It also gives donors the opportunity to receive immediate or deferred tax benefits while leaving a legacy.

Bequests, large and small, are also a significant source of support for the Academy of the Sacred Heart. Simply stated, a bequest is the act of naming the school in your will. The Academy of the Sacred Heart's policy is for all realized bequests to be placed in the School's endowment, unless otherwise specified by the donor.

If you'd like to play an important part in supporting Sacred Heart but feel now is not the time, you may be surprised to learn how life insurance can help fulfill your philanthropic goals and ease your financial concerns.

Many individuals name the Academy of the Sacred Heart as the sole beneficiary or one of the beneficiaries of a life insurance policy. The School would receive the benefit at the time of death of the donor.

If you own real estate or securities that have appreciated greatly over the years and you want to avoid paying the capital gains taxes you would incur when you sell, a Charitable Remainder Trust may be an attractive option for you.

Using your appreciated property or securities, set up an Irrevocable Remainder Trust with your attorney or financial planner and name the Academy of the Sacred Heart as the beneficiary. The Trust, which is not subject to tax, sells property or securities, reinvests the proceeds and makes specified annual payments to you or other designated individuals for a specified period of time. At the end of that period, the remaining funds in the Trust go to the School.

A Charitable Lead Trust is essentially the reverse of a Charitable Remainder Trust. You would transfer your appreciated property or securities to an Irrevocable Trust, but with this type of investment the Academy of the Sacred Heart receives the annual income interest payments for a specified period of time or your lifetime. At the end of that period, the remaining funds return to you or your designated beneficiary.
