Upper School financial literacy students at the Academy of the Sacred Heart have been named semi-finalists in the 2019 Trust Your Crazy Ideas Challenge (TYCIC). A partnership between Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans (JA), the Brees Dream Foundation, and The Idea Village, the competition teaches entrepreneurial thinking to high school students and fine tunes their business pitches.
The Sacred Heart team of three students is among 20 teams of semi-finalists across the New Orleans area, which were announced by Drew Brees on December 11. Their idea, domychores.com, is a service similar to Uber to have odd jobs done around the home on demand. Team members include Eva Fenasci ’19, Sara Spinosa ’20, and Olivia Wood ’19.
All semi-finalists will be mentored by local entrepreneurs and community leaders during an intensive eight-week JA Accelerator Workshop Series. The workshops provide a platform to not only inspire students to anticipate and solve problems, but also develop entrepreneurial and management skills. With the mentor’s guidance, the teams will improve their public speaking and presentation skills while providing real-world networking opportunities.
Finalists will then be selected to advance to the state competition during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW).
