Our school has been engaged in the continuous work of education in New Orleans since 1867, over 148 years ago. Founded by the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a Catholic religious order founded in 1800, our school is part of a national network of 24 Sacred Heart Schools in the United States and in Canada that share a commitment to foundational principles that are reflected in our Goals and Criteria. At Sacred Heart, we commit ourselves to educate to...
1. A personal and active faith in God
2. A deep respect for intellectual values
3. A social awareness which impels to action
4. The building of community as a Christian value
5. Personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom
"The Rosary," as we are affectionately known by many, is also part of a larger international network of Sacred Heart schools. There are 150 Schools of the Sacred Heart spanning the globe. These schools roughly correspond to the places where over 2,000 Religious of the Sacred Heart continue to serve in 41 countries of the world.
Exciting dimensions of our life at The Rosary are the multiple opportunities afforded to students though this truly international network for cultural immersion and understanding, for service and for education to leadership in our global world.
Guided by our mission to "discover and make known the heart of Jesus," Sacred Heart is a home for our students, a place where relationships with God, friends and the larger community are considered primary and where these relationships flourish to become a family for a lifetime. Students at our school grow in intellectual acuity, in self-awareness, in integrity, and in confidence that leads them to first-tier universities and to, later in their lives, positions of leadership in their respective communities where they can be seen to be making a true difference in the world.
Through our daily practice of education, we see miracles every day at our school: the miracle of God's action working through the minds and hearts of each of our students. We hear the sounds of laughter and learning permeating the polished floors, mahogany walls and wooded galleries. We notice the energy and excitement of learning happening through academic engagement and applied learning strategies, and we marvel at the impacts that our students have on their community through hours of service.
