The Academy of the Sacred Heart is pleased to announce that Ashley Ruckert '03 has been appointed as Director of Athletics. Ruckert has served as the Associate Athletic Director at Sacred Heart since 2014 and has extensive experience in coaching. She currently holds leadership positions in the New Orleans Athletic League (NOAL) and has partnered with the Louisiana High school Athletic Association (LHSAA) to host the soccer state championship and tennis regional tournaments.
Now in her fourth year of coaching varsity volleyball at Sacred Heart, Ruckert has led the Cardinals to three state third place finishes and two district titles and was named All-District Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2016. She has also assisted with the golf and tennis programs at Sacred Heart. During her tenure as golf assistant, the Cardinals have won three state runner-up titles in the last three years, and as tennis assistant, she helped coach the state runner-up team in 2014.
A native of New Orleans, Ruckert graduated from Sacred Heart in 2003. She received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Sport Science from Elon University, where she was a four-year volleyball scholarship recipient and varsity letter winner. As a high school athlete, Ruckert was part of three LHSAA state championship volleyball teams and one state runner-up team. She earned numerous accolades, including Most Valuable Player of the LHSAA State Championship match in 2002; Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Year; Louisiana High School Coaches Association Outstanding Athlete; Times-Picayune Top Prep Athlete; Best Female All-Around Athlete in the Archdiocese; and three-time Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association All-State team member. She was also recently named to the Clarion Herald Elite Volleyball Decade Team (1997-2006).
“Sacred Heart athletics was an integral part of my time as a student here, and I am honored to lead and give back to this athletic program that created so many life lessons and memories for me,” says Ruckert. “I look forward to continuing to work with the students, coaches, staff, and our community to build on our tradition of excellence. Go Cardinals!”
