With the return of the outdoor track & field season underway, the Cardinals ran in the Catholic School Meet at East Jefferson High School on March 8. In the field event portion of the meet, the athletes put forth their best efforts of the day and for some, it was their first experience at a varsity meet.
In the long jump, Lulu Real '23 soared to 14'2", Ava Arch '24 went 13'2", and Adelaide Doss '24 went 12'5.5".
In the high jump, Adelaide Doss '24 cleared 4'2", placing her fifth in the competition with a PR.
In the triple jump, Monet Ménard '20 finished third with a leap of 30'4.75" while setting a new personal record in the javelin at 72'1". She recorded a 70'6" toss in the discus event as well.
Mykhala Coleman '21 had throws of 34'00" in the shot put for third, 88'8" in the discus for third, and 71'7.5" in the javelin.
In the 1600m and 3200m, Mary Nusloch '19 went wire to wire in both and ran fantastic times of 5:19.52 and 11:34.55 to win both events.
Olivia Boyd '22 duplicated in her two running events by winning both the 400m and 800m races with times of 1:04.66 and 2:33.63.
Ava Arch '24 ran her first varsity 100m hurdle race in 21.55 seconds into a strong headwind and surprised even herself by claiming first place in the race.
Both Lulu Real '23 (14.13 seconds), and Ava Arch '24 (15.02 seconds) sprinted down the track in the 100m into that same headwind.
Caroline Nusloch '21 finished the 3200m race in fifth place with a time of 13:17.65 after returning from her exchange in Seattle, which got her back home at 1:30 a.m. the morning of the meet.
Both Mary Nusloch '19 and Olivia Boyd '22 shared the Track MVP Award for their 20 points they each scored by winning their respective events.
