We are excited to offer a variety of after-school enrichment programs tailored to arts, science and engineering, cooking, dance, yoga, music, and sports. 

Scheduling:
After-school Program classes will begin the week August 27, 2018. Classes will not be held the week of November 19-23 due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Mon: Little Hearts Soccer Shots (LH 2 + 3s; 3:30-4:00)

This 30 minute session focuses on skill and character development through fun and engaging games and team interaction. A common skill and character word is woven into the curriculum each week.

Mon: Art for the Young at Heart (PK+K; 3:30-4:30)

Students will create art with Multi Media including water color, oil pastels, collage, and ceramics. Class size is limited to 20.

Mon: Girl Power Yoga (Gr. 2-3; 3:30-4:30)

Lolo’s After School Program is about helping children identify and unleash their personal power. Each week, art, inspiring music, fitness, yoga, and meditation are used to explore: confidence, friendship, strength, persistence, gratitude, attitude, beauty, and kindness. Class size limited to 20

Mon: Lab Rats (K-2; 3:30-4:30)

Students will become “mad scientists” as they perform new and exciting hands-on experiments and watch demonstrations that inspire the imagination and make learning fun. Students will take home experiments to share with the family. Class is limited to 25 students.

Mon: Rhythmic Gymnastics Monday (Grades 1-4; 4:00-5:00)

(In the Favrot Dance Studio)

Rhythmic gymnastics is a beautiful olympic sport in which individuals or groups of five manipulate one or two pieces of apparatus: rope, hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon and freehand (no apparatus). Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation. NOTE: Must be 5 or older to register.

Mon: Robotics-Robo Girls! (Grades 3-4; 3:30-4:30)

Robots are now being used to accomplish many tasks that humans can do and even complete tasks in environments where humans are not yet able to go...like Mars. There are many types of robots. Robots can roam and clean your house floors, explore the depths of the oceans, build automobiles, perform medical procedures, pick fruit from trees, sort packages, and so much more. Come learn about robots and the amazing things that they can do and maybe you will become a designer, or programmer of the next generation of robots. Class size limited to 10.

Mon + Wed: Girls on the Run (Gr. 3-4; 1.5 Hours)

(Mondays 3:30–5; Wednesdays 2:30–4)

Girls on the Run, a nonprofit organization program which includes community service, is an experiential after-school program that uses the power of running to prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Start date is set by GOTR. Space is limited. www.gotrnola.org

Tues: Little HeARTS (LH 3s; 3:30-4:30)

In this art class, students will participate in open-ended, abstract, age-appropriate art projects, focused around the season and holidays within the dates the class will take place.

Tues: Choir (Gr. 3-4; 3:30-4:30)

Les jeunes chanteuses, “the young female singers,” will learn how to be great choral singers and perform music that is both fun and beautiful. We will be preparing for various school functions, our Christmas concert, and some off-campus performances in the community. Although Les jeunes chanteuses meets after school, the choir is an extension of the Lower School music program; the choir represents both the Lower School and the Academy of the Sacred Heart during many events throughout the year. Students are expected to be faithful to rehearsals each week unless illness prevents attendance.

Tues: Dance (PK-K; 3:30-4:30)

Students learn fundamentals of ballet, tap and creative dance in the Favrot Arts Center Dance Studio. They will improve motor skills, flexibility and balance. Classes instill an appreciation for the arts at an early age and encourage creativity, social development and imagination in a nurturing environment. A recital is held at the end of the year. Class is limited to 15 students.

Tues: Clay Creations (Gr. 1-2; 3:30-4:30)

Students will learn the basic skills of hand building with clay while making one-of-a-kind nativity sets to be treasured and enjoyed each Christmas season. Students will also become familiar with the ceramic glazing and firing processes. Class size is limited to 24 students.

Wed: Cooking Thyme (Gr. 3-4; 3:00-4:00)

Come join us in La Cocina (the kitchen). We will be cooking up delicious iconic Spanish foods from 5 different Spanish speaking countries! Chefs will learn their recipes in both English and Spanish. Your student does not need to already have a knowledge of the Spanish language to attend this class.

Wed: Intermediate Knitting (Gr. 2-4; 2:30-3:30)

Review of casting on, the knit stitch, and binding off, and introduction to the purl stitch, practice reading knitting patterns, and stitch patterns using both knit and purl stitches.  Projects include choices of toys (teddy bears, rabbits, cats, dolls) or clothing (hats, scarves, slippers, cowls). Knitting needles and yarn provided. Class is limited to 8 students.

Wed: Soccer Shots Classic (PK+K; 3:00-4:00)

Soccer Shots Classic utilizes creative and imaginative games to focus on basic soccer skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Each session highlights positive character traits: respect, teamwork, and appreciation.

This program focuses on promoting a positive and healthy lifestyle while teaching the importance of exercise. Through physical activities such as yoga, Pilates, dance, and a bit of cardio, the girls will learn about goal setting meeting new challenges and most importantly self-confidence.

Cost: $250 (12 weeks; 30 minute classes)

Thurs: Ceramics (Grades 3-4; 3:30-4:30)

Students will learn the basic skills of hand-building with clay while making unique ceramic creations such as vessels, wall hangings, and “food art.” Students will also become familiar with the firing and glazing processes. Class size is limited to 15 students.

Recipe for Fun will travel far and wide to explore the cultures and cuisines of countries near and afar. Our chefs will take home delicious treats that they have made in class. Class size is limited to 25 students.
